• The closest airport to the conference venue is Helsinki Airport. The easiest way to reach Lappeenranta from Helsinki Airport is by train, which takes about 2 hours in total. First, take a local commuter train from Helsinki Airport to Tikkurila train station (Vantaa), departing every 10 minutes. From Tikkurila, there is a direct train to Lappeenranta.
• Train tickets from Helsinki airport/Helsinki to Lappeenranta can be purchased via VR. When you arrive at Helsinki airport, take a train from the Lentoasema (=airport) train station towards Helsinki. The train leaves from below the airport and you will take a commuter train “P” from the airport to Tikkurila station, where you will change to the long-distance train towards Lappeenranta. Tikkurila is the third stop from the airport and the journey takes about 8min. You can also take an earlier commuter train from the airport to Tikkurila station than what is shown in your ticket that has been purchased via VR. If you are travelling directly from the airport to Lappeenranta, you can buy a ticket from VR that covers the whole journey (including both commuter and long-distance trains).
• If you would like to get from airport to the Helsinki city center (e.g. layover), take the “I” or “P” train towards Helsinki and travel until Helsinki / “ Helsingin päärautatieasema”, which is the Central Station. The central station is the final stop of the train. If you would like to travel only to Helsinki city center and continue to Lappeenranta for example the next day, then the ticket for the commuter train must be bought via HSL. The airport is located in zone C and the Helsinki Central Railway Station is in zone A. You need an ABC ticket to travel from Helsinki Airport to Helsinki city center. Before buying a ticket, select a ticket that is valid for all the zones needed (select zones ABC).
• For train schedules and tickets, visit the VR website (National Railways) at https://www.vr.fi/en. It is highly recommended to book train tickets in advance, as they are based on dynamic pricing and the trains often sell out.

How to get to the LUT campus and conference venue?

• The easiest way to reach the city center from the railway station is by bus. Bus line 5 departs from the train station (Matkakeskus) approximately every 15 minutes, depending on the time. It travels towards the University (Yliopisto), passing through the city center (Keskusta) along the way.
• Bus tickets can be bought directly on the bus by cash or card. Information about Lappeenranta local bus timetables and real-time travel updates can be found on the website of the local bus operator Jouko. For all information related to public transport in Lappeenranta, visit this page.
• Please note that a few taxis are usually available at the train station during train arrival times. Advance booking is also possible via app or call. The two main local companies are Taksi Saimaa  and Menevä.
• It is also possible to walk to the city center from the train station in about 15 minutes.
• The campus is located approximately 7 km west of the city center. The campus is easily accessible using public transport. There are two bus lines between the city center and the campus, lines 1 and 5, heading towards the University (Yliopisto). The bus stop for the campus, i.e. conference venue, is the last stop (LUT Yliopisto).
• To access the conference, please use the campus’s main entrance at Yliopistonkatu 34, located just a few steps from the bus stop.
