Regina Cazzamatta
Biography
Regina Cazzamatta is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Global Communication at Lappeenranta–Lahti University of Technology (LUT), Finland, and a visiting researcher at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Florence from 2026 to 2028, supported by a Humboldt Feodor Lynen Fellowship for Experienced Researchers. She served as Principal Investigator of a German Research Foundation (DFG)–funded comparative project on disinformation contexts and the emergence of fact-checking organisations in Europe and Latin America, conducted at the University of Erfurt, Germany (2022–2025). She holds a PhD in Media and Communication Studies from the University of Erfurt, with additional research experience as a visiting researcher at the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA) in Hamburg. Her academic training includes a degree in Communication Studies from São Paulo and a postgraduate programme in International Journalism at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. Among her publications are ‚Brasilien-Berichterstattung in der deutschen Presse‘ and ‚Lateinamerikaberichterstattung der deutschen Presse: Struktur und Entstehungsbedingungen.‘ Her research interests encompass comparative media systems, disinformation, fact-checking, journalism cultures, political communication, platformization, public spheres, media discourse, news value theory, and international news.
