Taking environmental, economic, and social responsibility into consideration guides LUT’s strategic choices, management and operations. Sustainable development and responsibility are integrated into our educational content and our objectives for research impact.

LUT promoting UN's Sustainable Development Goals

We promote UN's seventeen sustainable development goals (SDG). Through our System Earth 2030 -strategy and research, our impact focuses on the following SDGs in particular.

Clean water and sanitation

Aridity, water shortage and availability of clean water are a growing concern, for which we seek solutions by research. We recover raw materials from wastewater and create new solutions for water treatment.

Affordable and Clean Energy

We develop clean energy solutions with expertise in technology and economics. We utilise Power-to-X technologies and electrification.

Decent work and economic growth

Economically, socially and ecologically sustainable business is at the core of our expertise. We promote innovative, entrepreneurial and network-like solutions.

Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

We promote the sustainability of society through circular economy and sustainable business models, data analytics, digitalisation, electrification, Power-to-X technologies and hydrogen economy.

Responsible Consumption and Production

We promote the renewal of industrial production through digitalisation, circular economy, new materials and enhanced processes. Our systemic perspective offers solutions for e.g. waste management, urban planning and production management.

Climate Action

We produce scientific knowledge and sustainable, system-based, technological, and business-related solutions to mitigate climate change.

Partnerships for the goals

We are committed to the UN Global Compact initiative. We promote the sustainable development goals through strong cooperation with our partner companies, stakeholders and campus cities.
