Citizens of the non-EU/EEA countries (excluding Switzerland) are required to pay the LUT tuition fee of EUR 13 500 for the Master's Programmes per each academic year. Please see the exceptions to this requirement at Tuition fee.
I have both an EU/EEA nationlity and a non-EU/EEA nationality. Which nationality I have to apply with?
You must apply with your EU/EEA (or Swiss) nationality to avoid paying the tuition fee. If being a citizen of the United Kingdom with the conditions listed at About Brexit by Finnish Immigration Service (MIGRI) you are exempted from paying the tuition fee and you must then apply with your UK nationality.
When do I have to pay the tuition fee for the first academic year?
If you wish to get the Early Bird Discount of EUR 6 000 you must pay the rest of the tuition fee EUR 7 500 within three weeks from having received the Certificate of Admission.
The ultimate and final deadline to confirm the place is however, always 30 April 2022 at 15:00 (UTC+3) without any exceptions.
Please note that if required to apply for a Residence Permit and pay a tuition fee, your application process will be on hold until you have paid the tuition fee or, are able to show the funding for it.
Where and how can I pay the tuition fee?
You can pay the tuition fee with the payment details that you will receive in your admission e-mail.
What happens if I do not pay the tuition fee?
You will not be included in the LUT University study register and the time within you have to complete your studies will be reduced with the time period for which you have not paid the tuition fee. You will also lose the Tuition Fee Waiver you have possibly been awarded.
If not having paid your tuition fee for the first academic year, you are not able to start your studies - and if you do not start your studies by a certain date in September (informed in your admission e-mail), you will lose your right to study. The payment must be paid by that certain date informed in your admission e-mail.
How do you decide whoever gets to be exempted from paying a tuition fee?
The basic rule is that citizens of the non-EU/EEA countries (excluding Switzerland) must pay a tuition fee. Please see the exceptions at Tuition Fee.
The decision for being exempted from paying the tuition fee or not is made by LUT University at the time of applying, based on the nationality or, a status for the Finnish Residence Permit Card (if already having one) or, for the UK citizens who have arrived in Finland before 1 January 2021, based on having registered, or applied to register, their EU Right of Residence in Finland in accordance with the Withdrawal Agreement.

You must upload a copy for your Residence Permit Card to your application at the time of applying to the programme.

If not being able to fulfill the requirements for the conditionally admitted students, you will lose your right to study and will be refunded by the amount of the tuition fee you have already paid for. LUT University will however, charge you for EUR 250 for the administrative costs.
During the application period, I had a Finnish Residence Permit Card allowing me to get exempted from paying a tuition fee.
However, it will expire before starting my studies. What do I have to do?
You are exempted from paying a tuition fee as long as you have one of the Finnish residence permits listed at Tuition Fee that allow you to get exempted from paying the tuition fee, so you must e-mail a copy for your new Finnish RP card to scholarships[a]lut.fi asap after having received it. If the status no longer allows you to get exempted from paying the tuition fee, a tuition fee will be charged from you.
My Finnish Residence Permit Card allows me to get exempted from paying a tuition fee.
However, it will expire during the academic year. Do I have to pay a tuition fee then?

OFFICIAL CERTIFICATION
Official certification can be done by the awarding institution or through a special process called legalisation.
1. Official certification by the awarding institution
- Copies are taken from original documents
- Copies include every page of the original documents
- Copies bear an original stamp of the awarding institution on each page of the document
- a generic stamp "Certified true copy" is not accepted.
- Copies bear an original signature of the certifying officer
Photocopies without an official certification will not be accepted.
2. Official certification by legalisation
If not able to have your educational documents officially certified by the awarding institution, you can get them officially certified through a process called legalisation, which is divided into two different methods depending on whether the country where the degree was awarded is a signatory to the Hague Convention of 1961 or not.
For more information on the signatory countries for the Hague Convention of 1961 and the authorities issuing Apostille Certificates, please see Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents.
A. Apostille
Apostille Certificate is required, if the degree has been awarded in a country that is a signatory of the Hague Convention of 1961.
The Apostille Certificate can be done by stamping the document with a specific Apostille stamp or, on a separate Apostille Certificate.
B. Legalisation
Legalisation is required, if the degree has been awarded in a country that is not a signatory of the Hague Convention of 1961.
The document must be first legalised by the Foreign Ministry of the degree-awarding country. After that, the document must be legalised again by a Finnish Embassy or Consulate to that country having done the first legalisation.
3. Digital credentials by Digitary
If able to provide us with educational documents electronically verified by Digitary, there is no certification according to the country-specific requirements required.
