Easy2reUse project will develop an intelligent reusable mask for healthcare workers, critical working
groups and citizens. The mask will be sustainable, easy-to-breath, comfortable to wear long working hours, have low lifetime cost, easy to clean, meeting the universal fit and standard requirements.

Easy2reUse project includes total of 11 organasation from six different countries: Finland, Spain, Belgium, Estonia, Czech and Lithuanian. User experiences of the mask prototype will be closely studied e.g. with healthcare workers in Finland and Spain. The project's research and development work focuses on the design of the mask, the electronic components attached to it, the mask's introduction into industrial production, and its cleanliness and maintenance, particularly in hospitals. In addition, the preparedness plan will be developed for the pandemic situation. The manufacturing process is designed to ensure that production takes place in Europe, and market readiness and cost-effectiveness of the mask are evaluated.

Goals

The goal of the work is achieved by pursuing following approaches:

  • Developing mask prototypes of different sizes and designs to be tested by healthcare and other essential workers and testing the mask’s mechanical strength, cleaning resistance, fit, innocuousness of materials, filtration efficacy and breathing resistance.
  • Producing the best prototypes to be tested by different essential test groups.
  • Developing and testing the best possible cleaning methods for materials chosen in hospital environment as in single use.
  • Get the reusable mask tested for accreditation and eventually get certified. - Build a readiness plan suitable for the EU countries.
  • Determining detailed material, personnel and productions costs and resale price. - Considering the sustainability of materials and cleaning methods used.
  • The reusable mask should be finally produced as mass production ready to be stockpiled and used by healthcare workers in hospitals, other critical workers and citizens.
