Letter of Motivation (max. 3,000 characters)
A letter explaining why you are applying to LUT University and the Industrial Design Engineering programme.
Describe your for example:
- what motivates you to apply
- the academic topics and fields that interest you most
- your learning goals during the programme
- how the degree will support your future career plans
- your goals after completing the Master's degree

The Letter of Motivation must be your own original work and reflect your genuine motivation, experiences, and future goals. Generic or externally generated content may negatively affect the evaluation of your application.
Portfolio
A portfolio of up to eight work samples demonstrating your previous studies, scientific work, and/or design-oriented projects. These may include sketches, illustrations, technical drawings, computer renderings, or photographs.
Each work sample must include:
- title
- purpose
- year of completion
- a short description
- your contribution to the work if it was completed as part of a team
The portfolio must be submitted as a single file.
- PDF format is strongly recommended.
- The maximum file size is 100 MB.

The portfolio must consist of work that genuinely demonstrates your own competence, creativity, and design process. For collaborative projects, your individual contribution must be clearly specified. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that all submitted materials and descriptions truthfully represent their own work and achievements.
Documents related to other relevant experience or competences
Provide supporting documentation of your relevant experience or competences by submitting a single attachment that may include:
- Professional certificates
- Academic publications
- Competition results
- Awards or recognitions
- Relevant diplomas
- Other documentation demonstrating relevant skills, experience, or achievements

Passport or ID card
- International passport or ID card showing your nationality
Residence permit granted in Finland (when applicable)
- Finnish residence permit card
Additional educational documents (when applicable)
- + official translations, if the originals are not in Finnish, Swedish or English
- If you have multiple documents for the same purpose, combine them into a single file before uploading.
Examples of additional educational documents:
- Proof of English proficiency based on a degree other than the one used for application.
