“Under Juhis’s leadership, LUT has been Finland’s most reputable university for four consecutive years and has reached the top 300 of 25,000 universities worldwide,” says Teresa Kemppi-Vasama, chair of the LUT board. “Several critical growth projects are underway at LUT, and I’m glad to see Juhis will continue moving them forward.”

Juha-Matti Saksa says he will continue to advance LUT’s standing as an internationally recognised university in research, education, and industry collaboration.

“My most important task is to ensure we have the resources we need: talented people, sufficient funds, and a good reputation. I’ll do all I can to help established companies, startups, and our other partners develop and grow alongside us,” Juha-Matti Saksa sums up.

The Curious People newsletter shares our solutions for helping build resilient communities, industry, and businesses while promoting the energy transition and the regenerative use of natural resources.

LUT aims to strengthen its position as an internationally recognised European university through research, education, and industry collaboration. In line with its System Earth strategy, LUT continues to address global sustainability crises and other wicked problems by means of science and research.

Saksa emphasises the importance of the university’s campuses: LUT will work to enhance their appeal as international research and learning environments. LUT aims for half of its students to come from outside of Finland by 2030.

“We will also deepen collaboration between LUT and LAB and increase our industry collaboration and regional impact. We’ve systematically pursued synergies through the establishment of our university group, which now brings us 19 million euros in annual benefits. Those funds go directly to research and education.”

A person appointed as rector must have a doctoral degree, the professional skills required for the role, and demonstrated leadership ability. Saksa’s previous roles at LUT include provost, administrative director, and fixed-term professor.
