The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings list the world's best universities based on performance. In the recently released 2027 rankings, LUT is in the top 326–350 even though the total number of universities rose by over 100. LUT’s ranking dropped slightly: previously, the university was in the top 300.
“The differences between universities are minimal, and even a few points in the score may affect the overall ranking position. This time, we fell a few places, but we achieved our best-ever result in international outlook,” says Mari Kallioinen-Mänttäri, provost at LUT University.
The areas assessed in the THE rankings are teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook. Research quality was again LUT’s strongest area, but the university also achieved a high score in industry.
Published each autumn, the World University Rankings are THE's most widely recognised list and among the world's most highly regarded university rankings. The 2027 rankings included nine Finnish universities, with LUT in a shared fourth place.
In recent years, LUT has also excelled in THE impact and subject rankings. In the 2026 Sustainability Impact Ratings, LUT ranked 9th globally for climate action (SDG 13) and 31st for responsible consumption and production (SDG 12). The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027 by subject will be published in early 2027.
