Markus Mäkelä
Biography
Head of AI for the LUT Universities Group. Previously in e.g. corporate roles such as business development, strategy, technology strategy, agile digitization, and M&A, and in academic research roles, including since 2001 at Aalto University Department of Finance, Aalto University Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, London School of Economics, Stanford University, the University of Turku, Columbia Business School, and the Wharton School. I was an installed full professor during the 2000s and have served as Director, Business Development for both Wartsila Corporation and the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra.
My industry experience centers on mechanical engineering, private equity, software, and healthcare. When working with companies or executive education, my focus is on developing value by helping grow, AI-develop, and otherwise transform ambitious organizations (incl. importantly via digitization, structural and work development, and M&A).
In addition to my role as Head of AI, I am writing on how AI will be influencing the content of business and corporate strategy as well as the reinvention of business processes and organization designs more broadly.
I write for the broad audience about strategy, digital business, and expressly value creation-cognizant management of digitization.
