HydrogenStrategy Päijät-Häme is a project that focuses on exploring the possibilities of hydrogen production and utilization in the Päijät-Häme region. The project examines various aspects of hydrogen production, the location of hydrogen refueling stations for heavy-duty transportation, methanol production from carbon dioxide, and diverse perspectives on utilizing waste heat from hydrogen production. The goal is to promote sustainable transportation and energy supply in the region, as well as support the development objectives of the government and the province.

Goals

  1. Investigate current energy distribution and production infrastructure, legal requirements, permits, and zoning related to different aspects of the hydrogen economy in Päijät-Häme.
  2. Map industrial stakeholders in the region, hydrogen producers, consumers, and significant sources of CO2 emissions.
  3. Model the integration of heat and electricity networks to utilize waste heat from the electrolysis process in district heating production, CO2 capture, and hydrogen use as a transportation fuel.
  4. Define the conditions under which the profitable production of synthetic methanol from CO2 byproducts is evaluated.
  5. Analyze the feasibility of the hydrogen economy in the region by comparing the results with those of similar projects to identify common factors.
  6. Pilot a comparison method for regional decision-makers to evaluate hydrogen and methanol production and usage centers.
