The environmental impacts of digital services and devices often remain invisible in everyday life, and awareness of the sustainability of digital practices is still limited. The Sustainable Digital Everyday Life project addresses this by making scientific knowledge more accessible to the public and training library staff to incorporate digital sustainability into their digital support services. The project also develops a Digital CleanUp model, which will be piloted and disseminated nationally through libraries. The aim is to strengthen citizens' ability to recognise the environmental impacts of everyday digital life and make more sustainable choices. The project culminates in the international Digital CleanUp Day in March 2027.

Goals

  1. Raise awareness of digital sustainability and make digital clean-up part of everyday environmental practices by producing an accessible information package and encouraging people to take part in digital clean-up events at libraries
  2. Provide library digital support staff with the tools to incorporate digital sustainability into their everyday work, through training, educational material, and an operating model
  3. Position Digital CleanUp Day as part of the international Digital Cleanup Day
  4. Strengthen public discussion on digital sustainability
  5. Promote awareness of digital sustainability at the municipal level
