When applying for our international Master's Programmes, you must prove your English proficiency using one of the following three methods: 

  • An accepted language test result
  • A degree completed in English in a country specifically listed on this page
  • A higher education degree completed in Finnish or Swedish in Finland
     

Certificates of English proficiency or statements that the medium of instruction was English are not accepted.  

You must prove your English proficiency by uploading the required test result or document to your application form by the supplementary deadline for the application period you are applying through.

 

Accepted language test results

You can demonstrate your English proficiency by providing one of the following language test results, achieving at least the minimum score specified:

IELTS Academic - 6.5

  • IELTS Online and IELTS Academic for UKVI are also accepted.
  • IELTS One Skill Retakes are accepted as long as all the individual scores are valid.

TOEFL iBT - 90
New TOEFL iBT - 4.5   ** from 21 January 2026 onwards **

  • TOEFL iBT Home Edition is also accepted.
  • MyBest Scores are accepted as long as all the individual scores are valid.

PTE Academic - 62

  • PTE Academic Online is also accepted.

Cambridge English: C1 Advanced - Pass on levels A, B or C 
 

Cambridge English:  C2 Proficiency - Pass on levels A, B or C or level C1 Certificate


Note: When applying to programmes in Business Administration through Early Admission without GMAT Exam, GMAT Focus Edition or GRE General Test, higher minimum scores are required in certain cases.

Language test result deadlines

  • Early Admission
    • 7 days from the date we request you to supplement your application
  • Regular Admission
    • 28 January 2026 at 15:00 (UTC+2) or
    • 7 days from the date we request you to supplement your application if this date of request being 22 January 2026 or later

 

Validity of language test results

Your test result must be valid and, due to technical issues related to the application process, LUT University defines validity as follows: 

  • Early Admission
    • 30 November 2025
    • Only tests taken on 30 November 2023 or later are considered.
  • Regular Admission
    • 28 February 2026
    • Only tests taken on 28 February 2024 or later are considered.
       

Verification of language test results

Your results will always be verified electronically from the test organisation's database.

IELTS and TOEFL test results can be verified from the relevant database once you have uploaded your result to your application form.

PTE and Cambridge test results require you to share your result with the university so that we can verify your result. Please make sure you share your results via your personal test site.

Degree completed in English in certain countries 

You can demonstrate your English language proficiency with a Bachelor's or Master's Degree completed in English in one of the following countries:

  • an EU/EEA country  
  • Australia  
  • Canada  
  • Ireland  
  • New Zealand  
  • Switzerland  
  • United Kingdom  
  • United States of America

The fact that English was the language of instruction must be clearly indicated on the educational documents.

Degrees completed in English on offshore campuses are accepted if the main university is located in one of the listed countries.

If you are applying with an incomplete Bachelor's degree, you can demonstrate your English proficiency using that same degree.

If you are proving your English language proficiency with a degree other than the one you are applying with, you must have completed and graduated from that degree by the Regular Admission application deadline or at the time of applying for Early Admission.

 

Degree completed in Finnish or Swedish in Finland

You can demonstrate your English proficiency with 

  • a higher education degree completed in Finnish or Swedish in a Finnish University or a University of Applied Sciences

If you are applying with an incomplete Bachelor's degree, you can demonstrate your English proficiency using that same degree.

If you are proving your English language proficiency with a degree other than the one you are applying with, you must have completed and graduated from that degree by the Regular Admission application deadline or at the time of applying for Early Admission.
