A new way to collaborate with companies

The Artificial Intelligence Research Center (AIRC) finds solutions and brings new ideas to business and architecture development in the domain of AI from any perspective. The center brings together the various disciplines of LUT to strengthen AI research for practical impact in business.

The aim of AIRC is to develop scalable solutions that serve companies’ fast developing capacity to adopt AI across their businesses from new technologies to data management and strategic business development. AI-assisted development is crucial in speeding up service building and implementation and finding bottlenecks in business landscapes.

Growth from innovation can only come from collaboration. AIRC aims to minimize the threshold for new ideas to emerge. The research center welcomes collaboration ideas from all of LUT’s community, companies in its network, and other stakeholders interested in growing with us.

How these themes connect to LUT’s research expertise?

Recearch Center process

1 ▶
LUT & LAB research teams are welcomed to offer project proposals to AIRC for themes connected to its profile. The applications are expected to distinguish between funding requested from AIRC and funding from external sources.
2 ▶
AIRC steering group evaluates and approves applications on its own discretion and grants funding.
3 ▶
Projects start and aim at continuity – AIRC projects are expected to extend to externally funded projects form instruments such as EU Horizon, Business Finland, or for example foundations.

Project ideas and applications

AIRC requests project and idea proposals from LUT and LAB experts, following the below guidelines:

  • There are no limitations as to what kind of proposals AIRC receives. The proposals can concern research projects, thesis and dissertation work, education, or other types.
  • Majority of the funded initiatives are likely co-creation type pre-projects, quick studies that scrutinize the idea and prepare it for a full-scale application for external funding instruments.
  • All proposals must include LUT costs.
  • AIRC steering group evaluates proposals on a rolling basis.
  • The steering group decides on its own discretion which proposals are funded.
  • Proposals can concern one or several topics under AIRC profile. Interdisciplinarity is encouraged.
  • While AIRC receives all kinds of proposals related to its profile, it can prioritize certain fields on its own discretion.
