  • Switzerland

Holders of a residence permit card with certain status

Studies are tuition-free for holders of the following residence permit cards

  • Continuous Residence Permit Card in Finland (A) for a non-study purpose
  • Permanent Residence Permit Card in Finland (P)
  • EU Residence Permit for Third-Country Citizens with a Long-Term Residence Permit Card in Finland (P-EU)
  • EU Family Member's Residence Card in Finland
  • EU Blue Card in Finland

To prove us not being required to pay a tuition fee, upload a scan for your Finnish residence permit card to your application form.

The document proving you to be exempt from paying the tuition fee must be valid on August 1 in the academic year you have been admitted to start your studies. Should the status for your Residence Permit Card change at any time, you must provide LUT Scholarships at scholarships@lut.fi with your new Residence Permit Card without any delay.

Non-EU/EEA citizens

Citizens of the non-EU/EEA countries must pay a tuition fee of

  • EUR 13 500 / each academic year

Citizens of Switzerland are excluded from this group.

Exceptions for the UK citizens

After the United Kingdom having left the European Union, the UK citizens are now following the same rules regarding to the tuition fee and scholarships as the other non-EU/EEA citizens, while the application period for Brexit permits in Finland was closed on 30 September 2021.

The following exceptions are related to the UK citizens living in Finland since before 1 January 2021:

1. If having been living in Finland since before 1 January 2021 and having been issued a Brexit permit by 30 September 2021, you are exempted from paying a tuition fee.
To prove of being exempted, please upload a scan for your Residence Permit Card with a Right of Residence under the Withdrawal Agreement.

2. If having been living in Finland since before 1 January 2021 and having been applied for a Brexit permit by 30 September 2021 but still waiting for your Residence Permit Card, you may be exempted from paying a tuition fee.
To prove of being exempted, please upload a statement by Finnish Immigration Service for having applied for a right of residence or, for a permanent right of residence under the Withdrawal Agreement.

3. If having been living in Finland since before 1 January 2021 and not having applied for a Brexit permit by 30 September 2021, please see further information at About Brexit by Finnish Immigration Service (MIGRI) about whether you would still be able to apply for a right of residence or, for a permanent right of residence under the Withdrawal Agreement under certain conditions.
