Double Degree Admission for Master's studies

The eligibility requirements for applying as a Double Degree student to the Master's Programmes in Business Administration are defined in the Double Degree agreements between LUT University and the partner university.

The nominating partner university is aware of the requirements.

Bachelor of Science in Technology or closely related to Technology

For certain programmes, there are also additional degrees accepted in a field other than Technology.

Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences

The Admissions Committee for the programme always reserves a right to decide whether the degree and the completed studies provide the applicant with eligibility to apply to the programme.
 

For the following programmes, there is a requirement for having completed a minimum number of ECTS credits of previous programme-related studies as follows:
 
Chemical Engineering

• a minimum of 24 ECTS credits of studies in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering and Environmental Technology

Data-Centric Engineering

• Specialisation: Applied Mathematics

a minimum of 40 ECTS credits of studies in Mathematics or Statistics
 

• Specialisation: Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition

a minimum of 40 ECTS credits of studies in Information Technology or Computer Science

Technical Physics

• a minimum of 40 ECTS credits of studies in Physics

Electrical Engineering

• a minimum of 40 ECTS credits of studies in Electrical Engineering 

Studies in Control Technology, Automation and Embedded Systems can also be included - but studies in Information Technology are not included.

Energy Conversion

• a minimum of 24 ECTS credits of studies in Energy Technology 

Studies in Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, Nuclear Engineering and Energy Conversion are for example, included.

Courses related to planning, measuring and manufacturing of pumps, blowers and fans, compressors, turbines and heat transformers used in power plants and in energy conversion are considered to be included in studies supportive to Energy Technology, as well as studies in calculation of the related processes.

However, studies in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Process Engineering, Automation Engineering or Environmental Technology are NOT included in studies in Energy Technology.

Global Management of Innovation and Technology

• a minimum of 24 ECTS credits of studies in Industrial Engineering and Management, Information Technology, Mathematics or Statistics

Software Engineering and Digital Transformation

• a minimum of 24 ECTS credits of studies in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Business Informatics, Computer Science and Engineering, Business Systems and Analytics, Business Systems Design, Programming, Databases or Data Science

When a language test is not required
There is no language test result in English required in case of one of the following:

• The Bachelor's Degree being completed in English in an EU/EEA country, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, United Kingdom or the United States of America
• The current Master's Programme in the partner university being fully taught in English 

Language test requirements
Applicants with no possibility to prove their proficiency in English with their Bachelor's Degree or the current studies being in English must provide one of the following language tests with at least the minimum score required at the time of applying.

Group 1
The following minimum scores

• IELTS Academic, IELTS Online, IELTS Indicator: 6.0
• TOEFL iBT, TOEFL iBT Home Edition, TOEFL iBT Paper Edition: 80
• PTE Academic, PTE Academic Online: 54
• C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: C

for the following programmes:

• Chemical Engineering
• Global Management of Innovation and Technology
•  Software Engineering and Digital Transformation

Group 2
The following minimum scores

• IELTS Academic, IELTS Online, IELTS Indicator: 5.5
• TOEFL iBT, TOEFL iBT Home Edition, TOEFL iBT Paper Edition: 65
• PTE Academic, PTE Academic Online: 46
• C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: C

for the following programmes:

• Data-Centric Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Energy Conversion
• Mechanical Engineering
• Sustainability Science and Solutions
• Technical Physics

Nomination
The applicant must first be nominated as a Double Degree applicant by the home university. The partner university first provides LUT University with a list of the nominated applicants.

In Technology, applicants can be nominated to a maximum of 2 programmes according to the existing Double Degree agreements. NOTE: In the programmes within Energy Technology, it is possible to apply to only one programme.

In Business, applicants can be nominated to only one programme for which there is a valid Double Degree agreement.

The contact person for the partner university is emailed the instructions for the whole process well before the application period.

Application form

After the nomination, a link to a personal application form together with a detailed information for applying is emailed to the applicant by LUT International Mobility Services.

Educational Documents

• A scan for your original Bachelor's Degree Certificate
• A scan for your original Bachelor's Transcript of Records
• A scan for your original up-to-date Master's Transcript of Records
• Translations in English for all these documents (if applicable)

Other Documents

• A scan for your Language Test Result (if applicable)
• A scan for the ID page for your passport or, a copy of your national ID card
• A scan for your Finnish Residence Permit Card to prove your status for residency (if applicable) 
  • This only applies to applicant possibly already having a Finnish RP Card.

 
If you need to have your documents translated in English, you can get them officially translated by

• the awarding university
• the current home university
• an official translator
• yourself 
  • You may translate your documents yourself, but your translations must be approved by the current home university or the awarding university - meaning, that there must be the original stamp of the university on each page of every translation.

In the programmes in Business Administration, the selection process is based on the requirements for the programme described in the Double Degree agreement.
There are no interviews involved.

The selection process will be based on the previous degree, proficiency in English and the interview or, the interview only.
All the eligible applicants applying to programmes in Technology will be interviewed through a video interview system, Teams, Zoom or Skype as a part of the evaluation and selection process. The invitations for the interviews are sent by the programme representatives.
To be admitted, the applicant must achieve at least 70% of the maximum points for the interview.

The final student selections will be completed in the programmes and the admissions results will be published by 20 April 2024.
The student selections for students from University of Pavia, Eindhoven University of Technology and SKEMA Business School will be published by 10 May 2024.
All the applicants will receive an email about the results and the admitted students will receive an official Certificate of Acceptance plus a Scholarship Decision (when applicable) by email.

Studies are tuition-free for nationalities within

• The European Union (EU)
• The European Economic Area (EEA)
• Switzerland

Citizens of the non-EU/EEA countries (excluding Switzerland) must pay a tuition fee of

• EUR 13 500 / each academic year

There are exceptions regarding the tuition fee for holders of a certain type of residence permit awarded by Finnish Immigration Service.

NOTE: There may be issues related to the tuition fee that are agreed otherwise on the cooperation agreement.

Types of scholarships
When required to pay a tuition fee, you can apply for a scholarship.
The scholarships are awarded in the order of the highest points scored in the evaluation process.
In the 2023 intake the admitted Master's students for Double Degree studies who are required to pay a tuition fee are offered the following scholarships:

1. 100% Tuition Fee Waiver
2. Scholarship of EUR 6 000

These scholarships are awarded for one academic year and if not able to graduate within that one academic year, you still have an option the same scholarship for the third semester, i.e.

1. a 100% Tuition Fee Waiver OR
2. a scholarship of EUR 3 000

After the third semester, you are required to pay a full tuition fee for every semester you continue your studies.
 
How to apply for a scholarship?   
You can apply for a scholarship on the same application form when applying to Double Degree studies.

Preliminary statements about anybody's possibility for getting a scholarship cannot be given as it all depends on the other applicants as well.

If choosing to let go of your place in your home university before graduating from LUT University, you will lose your LUT Scholarship.

If admitted, you will be emailed an official Certificate of Admission plus, an official Scholarship Decision if having been awarded one.

You must confirm your place by

• 30 April 2024 at 15:00 (UTC+3)

There may also be another deadline given to you if having been admitted through the partner-specific additional application periods.

Not following the DL will automatically lead into losing your place without a possibility to claim it back.

How to confirm your place?
Students without a Finnish ID number will receive an email from StudyInfo, including a personal link that they will use for logging into MyStudyInfo.
Students with a Finnish ID number will log into MyStudyInfo with their Finnish e-identification methods.
 
Provision for one study place per semester
You may only confirm one place in Finland for the same semester. The first place confirmed will be your first and final choice as you will not be able to change it anymore - or first cancel and then confirm yet another place.

Deadline for enrolling
You must enroll for the academic year 2024-2025 within

• 30 April 2024 at 15:00 (UTC+3)

There may also be another deadline given to you if having been admitted through the partner-specific additional application periods.

How to enroll?

After having confirmed your place, you are able to enroll by entering OILI from MyStudyInfo. The enrolment must be finalised by paying the obligatory Student Union Fee.

Not following the deadline will automatically lead into losing your right to study. You may claim your right to study back by contacting LUT Student Customer Service and by paying an extra fee of EUR 35 for the late enrolment.
