Rolling Admission for Master's Studies

The information available at the moment was for the previous application period.

Eligibility


1. Requirements for Completed Degree

A. Technology

You are eligible to apply to this programme with one of the following degrees:

  • Bachelor of Science in Technology
    Tekniikan kandidaatti
    Completed in a Finnish University

    Having completed a degree Diplomi-insinööri (DI) still makes you eligible to apply, but only when applying with the degree Tekniikan kandidaatti.
    EXCEPTION: Degree DI accepted if completed before 2008 before no separate Bachelor's Degrees existed.
    NOTE: You are ineligible to apply, if having completed a degree DI in a study programme in the same field of study compared to the programme you are applying to.
  • Bachelor of Engineering
    Insinööri (AMK) Completed in a Finnish University of Applied Science

    Having completed a degree Insinööri (YAMK) still makes you eligible to apply, but only when applying with the degree Insinööri (AMK).
  • Bachelor of Science in Technology OR closely related to Technology - All countries
    Completed in a University
  • Bachelor of Engineering - EU/EEA countries
    Completed in a University of Applied Sciences

        Both the above mentioned degrees have to meet with the following criteria:

The degree must be equivalent to a similar Finnish Bachelor's Degree regarding to number of academic years and ECTS credits required.

The degree must give you eligibility to apply to university level Master's studies in the country where the degree was completed in.

Having completed a Master's Degree still makes you eligible to apply, but only when applying with a Bachelor's Degree.

◦ Exception: Master's Degree with no immediate prior Bachelor's Degree included is accepted.

There are no programme-specific studies required.
Exception: in Electrical Engineering 24 ECTS of studies in Electrical Engineering required.

NOTE: The Admission Committee for the programme reserves a right to decide whether the degree and the completed studies provide the applicant with eligibility to apply to the programme.

B. Business Administration

You are eligible to apply to this programme with one of the following degrees:

  • Bachelor of Science in Economics or Business Administration
    Kauppatieteiden kandidaatti
    Completed in a Finnish University

    Having already completed a degree Kauppatieteiden maisteri at the time of applying or, completing it before starting the LUT Master's studies makes you ineligible to apply.
  • Bachelor of Business Administration
    Tradenomi (AMK)
    Completed in a Finnish University of Applied Sciences

    Having completed a Master's Degree in BA still makes you eligible to apply, but only when applying with a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Bachelor of Science in Economics or Business Administration - All countries
    Completed in a University

    Having already completed a Master's Degree in Economics/BA at the time of applying or, completing it before starting the LUT Master's studies makes you ineligible to apply.
  • Bachelor of Business Administration - EU/EEA countries
    Completed in a University of Applied Sciences

    Having completed a Master's Degree in BA still makes you eligible to apply, but only when applying with a Bachelor's Degree.
    • The degree must be equivalent to a similar Finnish Bachelor's Degree regarding to number of academic years and ECTS credits required.
    • The degree must give you eligibility to apply to university level Master's studies in the country where the degree was completed in.
    • A minimum of 80 ECTS credits of studies in Business Administration to be included in the degree.

There are no programme-specific studies required.

Requirements for the Degree Awarding University

The university awarding you the degree that you are applying with must be an official and recognized part of the national education system and has to be listed on the World Higher Education Database WHED by International Association of Universities.

2. GPA

To be eligibile to apply to any of the Master's Programmes, you are required to have at least the minimum required score for the GPA for the degree providing you with eligibility to apply:

  • 3.50 on the scale of 1.00 - 5.00

You must indicate your GPA on your application form with two decimals or, calculate it if not indicated in the Degree Certificate or Transcript of Records.

The GPA is an arithmetic average of all individual study attainments included in the degree graded with numbers - and whether the Final Thesis is included or not, depends on the programme.

Final Thesis included in the GPA

  • All the programmes in Business Administration
  • Global Management of Innovation and Technology (GMIT)
  • Software Engineering and Digital Transformation

Final Thesis NOT included in the GPA

  • All the programmes in Technology
    EXCEPT FOR
    • Global Management of Innovation and Technology (GMIT)
    • Software Engineering and Digital Transformation

If your previous degree was not evaluated on a 5-point scale, your GPA will be adapted to a 5-point grading scale by the Admission Committee for the programme.

3. GMAT or GRE Test/s

To be eligibile to apply, you are required to have taken a programme-specific GMAT or GRE Test/s with a minimum required score/s listed below.

GMAT or GRE General

  • Business Analytics (MBAN)
  • International Business and Entrepreneurship (MIBE)
  • International Marketing Management (MIMM)
  • Strategic Finance and Analytics (MSF)
  • Supply Management (MSM)
    • GMAT: Total score 550 OR GRE General: Verbal Reasoning 152 / Quantative Reasoning 152 / Analytical Writing 3.0

GRE General

For the following Master's Programmes:

  • Software Engineering and Digital Transformation
  • Eletrical Engineering
  • Bioenergy Systems
  • Energy Conversion
  • Nuclear Engineering
  • Circular Economy
  • Sustainability Science and Solutions
  • Mechatronic System Design
  • Sustainable Production in Mechanical Engineering
  • Advanced Structural Desing and Robotised Welding
  • Industrial Design Engineering

GRE General: Verbal Reasoning 152 / Quantative Reasoning 152 / Analytical Writing 3.0

GRE Physics

For the following Master's Programmes:

  • Biorefineries
  • Chemical Engineering and Water Treatment
    • GRE Physics: Scaled score 560 OR
    • GRE Physics: Verbal Reasoning 140 / Quantative Reasoning 147 / Analytical Writing 3.0

GRE Physics or GRE Mathematics

For the following Master's Programme:

  • Computational Engineering and Technical Physics
    • GRE Physics OR: Scaled score 560 OR
    • GRE Physics: Verbal Reasoning 140 / Quantative Reasoning 147 / Analytical Writing 3.0

        OR
       
    • GRE Mathematics: Scaled score 560 OR
    • GRE Physics: Verbal Reasoning 140 / Quantative Reasoning 147 / Analytical Writing 3.0

4. Requirements for Proficiency in English

Language Test

To be eligible to apply, you are required to submit a language test result as a proof of your proficiency in English.

One of the following language tests in English with at least the minimum score mentioned is required:

  • TOEFL – 80 iBT or 550 PBT
  • IELTS Academic – 6.0
  • PTE Academic  – 54
  • C1 Advanced - C
    Test previously known as CAE by Cambridge English Qualifications
  • C2 Proficiency - C
    Test previously known as CPE by Cambridge English Qualifications

NOTE: A language certificate from your home university or any other institution or organisation is not accepted.
 

When a Language Test Result is not Required?

Validity for the Language Test

Your language test result has to be valid on the date of submitting your LUT application form. If not, you are required to take a new language test as you will not be eligible to apply with an expired language test result.

All the language test results accepted by LUT are valid for two years from the date of taking the test.
