LUT University has yet again achieved strong results in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject. In the 2026 subject rankings, LUT was compared internationally in four fields:

  • business and economics (151–175th)
  • physical sciences (201–250th)
  • engineering (301–400th)
  • computer science (301–400th)

This year, LUT Business School improved its position and rose from 176–200th to 151–175th. In research quality, it ranked sixth  out of 1,067 business schools worldwide, up from last year’s eleventh place.

“The rise demonstrates that our strategic focus on research excellence and international impact is delivering results. We’re moving decisively toward the global top of business schools,” says Sami Saarenketo, dean of LUT Business School.

Additionally, LUT Business School was yet again second among Finnish business schools included in the ranking. In research quality, it ranked first in Finland.

Physical sciences and computer sciences held their positions

In the 2026 subject rankings, LUT’s computer science and physical sciences maintained their strong positions – a positive outcome considering the annually increasing number of universities included in the ranking. The physical sciences subject covers education and research in physics, chemistry, and mathematics.

LUT ranked first in Finland in the international outlook of computer science and in the research quality of physical sciences. Furthermore, LUT was second in Finland in physical sciences. However, LUT’s overall ranking in engineering declined slightly. The engineering subject covers areas such as electrical and mechanical engineering and energy technology.

”We continuously strive to enhance the quality and impact of our research and education both in Finland and internationally. People at LUT have done great work, and our latest results in the THE rankings by subject give us an excellent foundation to move forward,” says Mari Kallioinen, provost of LUT University.
