Biography

Mbanyick Badara Joof is a Junior Researcher and PhD candidate at LUT University, affiliated with the Sustainable Software Research Group. His research focuses on green coding and sustainable software engineering, with a particular interest in energy efficient API design, software and hardware measurement, and the integration of sustainability metrics into software development life cycles.

His doctoral work,  explores how software energy consumption can be systematically measured and optimized at the API level using both hardware and software instrumentation. Through a design science research (DSR) approach, his study aims to develop methods and tools that help developers quantify the environmental footprint of their code and integrate green metrics into continuous development and deployment workflows.

Mbanyick’s broader research interests include sustainable digital infrastructures, software sustainability assessment frameworks, and climate-aligned computing practices that support the European Green Deal and emerging policy frameworks such as the CSRD and EUDR.
