The FinGeo project provides a framework for Finnish innovation and industrial policy thinking. The need for a new framework is rooted in the transition from the previous era of “great moderation” globalization to the current era of geoeconomics defined by supranational power politics. This is a major change for both companies and national economies. The project also examines the impacts of the green transition, as the transition away from fossil fuels creates new geoeconomic dependencies.

The FinGeo project is a collaboration between the Etla Economic Research, Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT and international partners

Goals

The FinGeo project’s core objective is to provide insight and foresight by developing a framework that maximizes value generation and capture within Finland, considering the evolving geoeconomic environment.

The project develops a robust framework for industrial and innovation policy in Finland amidst the shift to a geoeconomic era of globalization. This framework helps policymakers assess the efficiency and impact of various policy actions and provides guidelines for achieving positive outcomes for Finnish industrial policy in this new landscape.
