How we adapt new-generation digital technologies will influence our behaviour and society. The world of work and companies need experts who can anticipate the social and societal impacts of technologies.
You will be able to work in numerous professional fields with job titles such as data analyst, data scientist, user experience researcher, consultant, director of human resources, and head of community relations.
Social scientists from LUT can examine trends and consider the societal, political, economic, human, and well-being factors of technologies. Learning outcomes
After graduation, you will be an expert in understanding traditional and emerging digital technologies and their societal impacts. You will know how to combine digital data with the analysis of societal and policy processes and human practices, offering valuable insights to business enterprises, public or third sector organisations, and software developers, for example. You will have skills to design, implement and manage digital technologies in their social context. The programme includes aspects of well-being and the social sustainability of digital transitions.
You will acquire:
- an understanding of the impacts of digital technologies on individuals, organisations and societies;
- expertise in analysing changes in the digital technology landscape;
- knowledge on designing, implementing, and managing digital technologies in their environments;
- skills to use digital technologies and data to analyse and solve societal issues;
- an understanding of the ethics of digitalisation and society.
Degree structure and studies
The Master's Programme in Digital Social Science is a two-year programme. It leads to the degree of Master of Social Sciences, M.Soc.Sc., which is 120 ECTS credits.
The programme includes core, advanced specialisation, language and multidisciplinary studies on critical systems of the society as well as a master’s thesis.
