Erasmus Mundus Master's Programme Software Engineers for Green Deal

Software engineers will have an important role in solving the sustainability challenges we face locally and globally.

The Erasmus Mundus Master's programme Software Engineers for Green Deal (SE4GD) educates software engineers with a sustainable mindset to tackle sustainability challenges.

These experts will be able to innovate, design and implement software-based solutions with a sustainable effect for local and global contexts. Our graduates will have an impact on individuals, societies, industries and governments through new, responsible ways of developing systems.

The programme focuses on sustainable development through the use of software solutions. It emphasises human aspects in sustainability, develops the education aspects of sustainability with a social perspective, and educates ICT professionals with advanced sustainability knowledge, skills and competences.

The SE4GD programme also emphasises the employability of the students by developing their career skills throughout the programme. Thus, the programme aims for learning outcomes in both hard and soft skills.

The programme is implemented as a triple degree programme between LUT University in Finland (LUT), University L'Aquila in Italy (UnivAq) and Vrije Universtiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands (VUA). After successfully completing the studies, students will receive the following degrees:

  • LUT: Master of Science in Technology (major in software engineering)
  • UnivAq: Master of Computer Science
  • VUA: Master of Science in Computer Science (software engineering and green IT track)

You will start in Italy (semester 1) and continue in Finland (semester 2) and the Netherlands (semester 3). For your Master's thesis in semester 4, you may select one of the thesis positions offered by our partners. You will also participate in two summer schools arranged by our partners as a part of your studies.

The first semester in Italy will focus on software engineering fundamentals, the semester in Finland will emphasise sustainable software, and the semester in the Netherlands will deal with software for sustainability. In other words, your software engineering studies will include the sustainability perspective.
