In 2022 LUT University established a new department – Department of Social Sciences. One aim is to increase students' mutual understanding of the importance of multidisciplinarity. New Bachelors’ Programmes in social sciences and communication sciences will start in autumn 2023. Master's and doctoral programmes will start in autumn 2024. 

In this webinar the new Department, its programmes, staff and research strategy will be presented. Join the webinar to learn what kind of new expertise LUT has to offer. We will also discuss how you as an alumni could contribute and take part in this journey!

Associate Professor Hanna-Mari Husu recently started as a Head of the Educational Degree in a new degree programme in social sciences at the LUT University. Her research interests deal with energy transition and policy, power, sociological theory, social movements, and participation. She worked as a university teacher for several years at the University of Jyväskylä. 

Associate Professor Matti Kojo has more than 25 years of experience in studying energy governance and policy issues, particularly in nuclear power and nuclear waste management. At the Tampere University, he was the coordinator of the “Transition to a resource efficient and climate neutral electricity system” research consortium funded by the SRC at the Academy of Finland in 2015–2021. His research topics include public acceptance, public and stakeholder participation, and media analysis. Kojo has participated in national and international research programmes, and edited or co-edited four books and regularly co-authors articles in international peer-reviewed journals.
