Nooa Nykänen
Biography
I currently work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Social Sciences at LENS. In my research, I'm interested in historical organization studies and in various types of changes that organizations and societal actors may face in their institutional and technological environments. At present, my ongoing research projects cover several topic areas, such as:
- Digital strategy and the use of data technologies in startup organizations
- Dynamics of societal crises and strategic responses to them
- Ideological functions of propaganda in contemporary media environments
- Path dependent processes in regional economic systems
I am also a member of the Disinformation, Propaganda & Soft Power Research Lab (https://www.lut.fi/en/research-groups/disinformation-propaganda-soft-po…) and the AoF-funded EntreNational research group (https://www.lut.fi/en/projects/entrenational-international-entrepreneur…).
My research has been published in well-ranked academic journals such as, Long Range Planning, Journalism Studies, Management and Organization Review and Eurasian Geography and Economics.
I hold a PhD in Economic and Business History (University of Jyväskylä) and I have also worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Strategy and Venturing at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management in Aalto University between 2020-2023.
My teaching in LUT covers courses on, societal use of data, strategic communications, and on the role of networks and influencing processes in media environments. I have also previously taught master-level and doctoral-level courses and modules on several strategy-related topics, such as platform strategy, generative AI, purpose-driven and hybrid organizations, and dynamic capabilities in Aalto University.
