Laboratory of Electrical Drives Technology
With solid and steady growth, the Finnish electric drives and power electronics industries are state-of-the-art on a global scale. Finnish expertise in electronic and electrical systems produces high technology that is successful on the international market.
Thanks to our close industrial contacts and the cutting-edge expertise of our researchers, our laboratory is a national leader in developing energy-efficient electric drives. Our laboratory focuses on electric machines and research on electric drives. Special electric machines and drives are where we are most at home.
Our research themes include the development of design systems for electric machines, the electric machines themselves and the adjustment of electric machines. The areas of application are industry, distributed power production (e.g. wind power), and mobile electric drives.
The Carelian Drives and Motor Centre (CDMC) works as an independent research unit of the department in addition to the laboratory. The CDMC works in broad co-operation with ABB.
