Biography

Azzurra Morreale is a tenure-track Associate Professor at LUT Business School, LUT University, Finland, where she heads the Viipuri Lab for Behavioral and Experimental Research | LUT University, a facility dedicated to experimental research in economics and the behavioral sciences. She also holds the academic title of Docent in Strategic Finance, Economic Behavior, and Decision-Making at LUT. From 2023 to 2025, she was Senior Associate Professor of Finance at Jönköping International Business School in Sweden.

She is additionally a Visiting Professor in the Department of Economics and Management at the University of Trento (Italy) and a member of the CEEL | Cognitive and Experimental Economics Laboratory at the same university. She earned her PhD in Management Engineering from the University of Palermo (Italy) and has been a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Her research sits at the intersection of behavioral and experimental economics, finance, organizational decision-making, and quantitative analysis. Using both experimental and analytical methods, she has studied real-options decisions, financial risk-taking, crowdfunding, tax morale and compliance, organizational exploration and exploitation, cognitive diversity, and innovative behavior. Running through this work is a central question: how do risk perceptions, strategic interaction, information, and decision environments shape individual and collective choices? Her current work increasingly turns to human–AI interaction and the augmentation of human decision-making, asking when technologically enhanced decision support sharpens judgment — and when it erodes it.

Azzurra Morreale teaches widely across finance, decision science, and analytics, including courses in Investment and Business Analysis, Corporate Finance, Banking and Insurance Finance, Machine Learning, Real Options and Managerial Decision-Making, and Behavioral Economics and Management. In recognition of the quality of her teaching, LUT Business School awarded her the Teacher of the Year prize in 2022 for the Master’s Programme in Strategic Finance and Analytics.
