Tuition Fee and Scholarships
Citizens of EU/EEA Countries and Switzerland
Higher education taught in a language other than Finnish or Swedish is free for nationalities within
- The European Union (EU)
- The European Economic Area (EEA)
To prove your citizenship, you are required to enclose a copy of your valid passport or national ID card where your citizenship is indicated.
Citizens of Non-EU/EEA Countries
Citizens of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland are required to pay tuition fees.
LUT University Tuition Fee for the Double Degree Bachelor's Programmes is EUR 9 000 per each academic year.
YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TUITION FEE IF YOU ARE:
- Non-EU/EEA citizen having a Permanent Residence Permit Card in Finland (P)
- Non-EU/EEA citizen having a Long-Term Resident's EU Residence Permit Card in Finland (P-EU)
- Non-EU/EEA citizen having a Fixed-Term Continuous Residence Permit Card in Finland (A)
- Non-EU/EEA citizen having an EU Family Member's Residence Card in Finland
- Non-EU/EEA citizen having an EU Blue Card in Finland
Your residence permit card or residence card has to be granted by The Finnish Immigration Service.
If having a residence permit card or residence card in Finland, you are required to enclose a copy of the card to your application.
YOU ARE MOST LIKELY NOT TO PAY TUITION FEE IF YOU ARE:
- Non-EU/EEA citizen but married to a Finnish citizen
- Non-EU/EEA citizen but a family member to EU/EEA citizen having a right to reside in Finland
Your residence (permit) card or residence card has to be granted by The Finnish Immigration Service.
If having a residence (permit) card in Finland, you are required to enclose a copy of the card to your application.
Exceptions for the UK Citizens
After the United Kingdom having left the European Union, the UK citizens are now following the same rules regarding to the tuition fee and scholarships as the other non-EU/EEA citizens, while the application period for Brexit permits in Finland was closed on 30 September 2021.

Applicants who are required to pay a tuition fee may apply for a scholarship which is awarded as a Tuition Fee Waiver.
The Tuition Fee Waivers are awarded by the end of September in every academic year. If awarded the Tuition Fee Waiver, the paid fee is returned partially according to the scholarship percentages.
There are three different categories of Tuition Fee Waivers:
Category I: Tuition Fee Waiver is 2/3 of the annual tuition fee
Category II: Tuition Fee Waiver is 1/3 of the annual tuition fee
Category III: Tuition Fee Waiver is EUR 1000
The number of the first year Waiver is calculated from the total amount of the paid tuition fees. The Waiver will not automatically continue for the second year.
The Tuition Fee Waver for the second and third year are awarded based on the GPA of the past academic year.
