Admissions Criteria and Selection

Selection process is carried out in two stages:

Final selection among the interviewed applicants is based on:

  • Total points scored for the preliminary selection + interview

Carefully answering all the questions on your Online Application Form is a must as missing information will lead into not scoring points for that question.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Previous Programme-Specific Studies

To possibly get admitted, you must have completed

You are responsible for converting, calculating and presenting the required and completed studies in ECTS credits on your application form listed by disciplines and courses according to the following:

  • 1 ECTS credit = a workload of 27 hours (lectures, assignments etc.)

The Admissions Committee for the programme has a right to decide whether the applicant's previous studies match with the requirements for the programme or not. There will be no preliminary statements given regarding to previous studies before or during the application period.
 

SELECTION PROCESS:
THREE DIFFERENT ADMISSION GROUPS

The selection process is conducted in three different Admission Groups:

  • 45% of the admitted students will be admitted from Admission Group 1
  • 45% of the admitted students will be admitted from Admission Group 2
  • 10% of the admitted students will be admitted from Admission Group 3
  • If seats still available in any of the three Admission Groups after all eligible applicants having been admitted, the available seats can be completed with eligible applicants from the other Admission Groups.

Admission Group 1

  • Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Administration - completed in a university in Finland (kauppatieteiden kandidaatti)
  • Bachelor of Science Economics/Business Administration - completed in a university worldwide

Admission Group 2

  • Bachelor of Business Administration - completed in a university of applied sciences in Finland (tradenomi)
  • Bachelor of Business Administration - completed in a university of applied sciences in an EU/EEA country

Admission Group 3

  • Bachelor's Degree in a field other than Business Administration - completed in a university in Finland
  • Bachelor's Degree in a field other than Business Administration - completed in a university of applied sciences in Finland
  • Bachelor's Degree in a field other than Business Administration - completed in a university worldwide
     

Preliminary Selection: Admission Groups 1 and 3

1) Academic Success
Max. 6 points

GPA for the degree providing you with the eligibility to apply:

  • 3.00 - 3.49 = 4 points
  • 3.50 - 3.99 = 5 points
  • 4.00 - 5.00 = 6 points

You must indicate your GPA for the degree giving you the eligibility to apply on your application form with two decimals or, calculate it if not indicated in the Degree Certificate or Transcript of Records.

The GPA considered in the LUT selection process is an arithmetic average of all individual study attainments included in the degree and graded with numbers, including the Final Thesis and excluding the grades for any fails. If your previous degree was not evaluated on a 5-point scale, your GPA will be converted to a 5-point grading scale by the Admission Committee for the programme.

NOTE: You must provide a link on your application form to verify the grading scale. If not able to do that and the grading scale not being explained in either the Degree Certificate or Transcript of Records, an additional, officially certified document issued by the degree-awarding university is required.
 

2) International Experience
Max. 4 points

You must present and explain in your own words your international experience on a separate letter (max. one page of A4/Letter):

  • Studying or working abroad or in a non-native language and/or,
  • Familiarity and knowledge of foreign cultures and languages

Related documents and certificates are required for proving your experience. 

Your international experience is given points as follows:

  • 1 point = Poor international experience
  • 2 points = Fair international experience
  • 3 points = Good international experience
  • 4 points = Excellent international experience

 

Preliminary Selection: Admission Group 2
Max. 11 points


1) Academic Success
Max. 6 points

There is no minimum GPA required for the programme.

GPA for the degree providing you with the eligibility to apply:

  • 3.00 - 3.49 = 4 points
  • 3.50 - 3.99 = 5 points
  • 4.00 - 5.00 = 6 points

You must indicate your GPA on your application form with two decimals or, calculate it if not indicated in the Degree Certificate or Transcript of Records.

3) Studies in Methodology
Max. 1 point

  • 1 point = a minimum of 6 ECTS credits of university level studies completed in Methodology (in Admission Group 2 only).

    Studies must be completed in a University, while studies completed in a University of Applied Sciences are not accepted.
    The studies must include both qualitative and quantitative studies.
    The minimum grade for these studies must be at least 3 on a scale from 1 to 5.
    You must list these courses in English on your application form - also whenever they have been completed in Finnish - plus, upload an official Transcript of Records in English where these courses are included.

Interview
Max. 10 points

On the second stage of the admissions process, a limited number of applicants from all three Admission Groups are invited to an interview in the order of the highest total points scored in the preliminary selection.

Your motivation, applicability for the programme and communication skills will be evaluated in the interview.

The interview will be done as a video interview.

If not having been invited to an interview, you cannot get admitted either.
