Research Group of Welding Technology

LUT welding laboratory is the leading unit in its branch in Finland. Wide and versatile entity of education and research supported by industrial collaboration gives excellent possibilities in supply of latest know-how and expertise facility.

Main research areas are:

  • Welding mechanization and robotization
  • Advanced welding processes
  • Weld quality and quality management
  • Total welding management

Research environment provides weldability research of materials and metallurgical and mechanical testing of welded structures. Modern welding machines are used to test suitability of different processes for different applications and to optimize their productivity in means of weld quality and mechanization level. Robotic welding systems provide possibility to evaluate robot weldability and testing of products, which can also be simulated in simulation software environment.

Equipment

  • Versatile and modern welding machines
  • Equipment for mechanized welding
  • Robot welding stations
  • Simulation and off line programming softwares
  • Material testing equipment (NDT, Destructive testing)
  • Micro- and macroscopy
  • Heat treatment
