Degree structure and studies
The Master's Programme Software Engineers for Green Deal is a two-year programme.
After completing the programme, you will receive three degrees from three universities: Master of Science in Technology (software engineering), Master of Computer Science and Master of Science in Computer Science (software engineering and green IT). The degree is 120 ECTS credits.
The programme is divided into four semesters.
Semester 1: Software engineering fundamentals, 30 ECTS credits. During this semester, you will focus on software engineering fundamentals in both the engineering and architecture of software systems. You will learn how to design, model and analyse complex systems and their architectures. The courses are organised at the University of L'Aquila, Italy, at the Department of Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics.
Semester 2: Sustainable software, 30 ECTS credits. During this semester, you will learn to understand the fundamentals of sustainable development, the role of software in sustainable development, and approaches to making software sustainable. The semester addresses the sustainability of software. The courses are organised at LUT University. ITMO University, Russia, provides a course on sustainability challenges faced by the Russian ICT industry.
Semester 3: Software for sustainability, 30 ECTS credits. The objective of this semester is to build upon the skills and competencies acquired in the first year of studies: the foundations of software engineering and sustainable software. You will learn to design modern service-oriented software, to understand its historical, current and future role in our society, and to assess the extent to which software systems impact sustainability goals. This semester addresses the instrumental role of software in sustainability. The courses are organised at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Semester 4: Master's thesis, 30 ECTS credits. This semester is dedicated to your Master's thesis. Students will be assigned a consortium partners for their thesis.
