The following information only applies to degrees completed in a country other than Finland.
If the degree was completed in Finland, there is no need to provide any documents, as it is verifiable in the national database.
Required documents for verification
You must provide us with the following documents for the degree you applied with:
- Bachelor's Degree Certificate
- Bachelor's Transcript of Records
- plus official English translations of the documents, if the original language is not English or Swedish
If your Bachelor's Degree comprises a two-year Bachelor's degree and a two-year Master's degree, you must provide us with verified documents for both degrees.
If your Bachelor's Degree comprises a previous degree and a top-up degree, you only need to provide us with documents for the top-up degree (i.e. the Bachelor's Degree).
Verification method depends on your case
The way in which you deliver your documents is not a matter of personal preference, but one that you must follow according to the criteria for your case.
The method of verifying the documents and delivering them depends on the following:
- the country in which you completed your degree
- whether or not you are able to have your documents verified electronically
- whether or not you are already residing in Finland
Carefully go through the given options and follow the instructions for the option that applies to you.
Deadline for verification
We must receive hard copies of the educational documents by post, or electronic copies that have been verified, together with the codes/passwords for electronic verification, by email by the following deadline
- 29 May 2026 at 15:00 (UTC+3)
The documents cannot be delivered to LUT University in person.
Place lost if documents not provided as requested
Your place will be automatically lost without exception if you are unable to meet the requirement that is an official part of the admission process. This will happen if:
- the required documents are not received by mail at Lappeenranta Campus by the given deadline OR
- the student does not provide us with electronically verified copies, together with the codes/passwords for electronic verification, by email by the given deadline OR
- the documents do not meet the given requirements for certification
Delivering the verified documents
There are four different ways to provide us with the certified documents requested, with sending the documents by post being the only possible option for most admitted students.
1. Send the certified copies by post to LUT University, Lappeenranta Campus
2. Electronic verification by the awarding university
3. Electronic verification by an authentic electronic verification service
4. Certification by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV)
Carefully go through the given options and follow the instructions for the option that applies to your case.
For example: If you completed your Bachelor's degree in Pakistan and do not reside in Finland, your only option is to mail us certified copies of your educational documents according to the country-specific requirements.

2. Electronic verification by the awarding university
If your university offers an electronic verification service for educational documents, you can use this to provide us with the necessary documents instead of sending hard copies by post.
This option is available for degrees completed in any country, provided the documents bear a digital verification element and/or can be verified by LUT University via an authentic online verification system.
Documents are visible in the verification system
If your Bachelor's Degree documents are visible in the verification system, you must provide us with
- the codes and/or passwords needed to complete the verification process.
Send these to us by email after you have been admitted, but before the given verification deadline.

Send these to us by email after you have been admitted, but before the given verification deadline.
Copies emailed to us without any true electronic verification element, as well as codes and/or passwords required for the verification process, will not be accepted.
3. Electronic verification by an authentic verification service
We accept electronic verification of documents, regardless of the country in which the degree was obtained.
We can only verify documents using systems that we can access with the verification credentials provided by the student.
We do not verify documents using systems that require us to register and/or pay for verification.

4. Certification by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV)

If the university that awarded your Bachelor's Degree is located in one of the listed countries, you must follow the country-specific requirements for document authentication:
- African countries
- Bangladesh
- China
- India
- Indonesia
- Iran
- Malaysia
- Nepal
- Pakistan
- Sri Lanka
- Vietnam
If there is no option for electronic verification and you are not already living in Finland and able to use the DVV verification, your only option is to follow the country-specific requirements for document authentication.
If your original educational documents are not issued in English, Finnish or Swedish, you will also need to provide official English translations.
If the university that awarded your Bachelor's Degree is not located in one of the listed countries for country-specific requirements, you must officially certify the required documents using one of the following methods (1–2).
This method is your only option if there is no option for an electronic verification and if you are not already living in Finland and able to use the DVV verification.
If your original educational documents are not issued in English, Finnish or Swedish, you will also need to provide official English translations.
Finland is excluded from this group, as degrees completed in Finland can be verified in a national database.
1. Official certification by the awarding institution
The easiest way to obtain certified copies of your original documents is to contact the university that awarded them and request the copies according to the given specifics.
- Copies are taken from the original documents
- Copies include each page of the original documents
- Copies bear an original stamp of the awarding institution
on each page of the document
- a generic stamp "Certified true copy" is not accepted
- Copies bear an original signature of the certifying officer
Photocopies without an official certification will not be accepted.
2. Official certification by legalisation
If you are unable to have your educational documents officially certified by the institution that awarded them, you can have them certified through a process called legalisation.
There are two methods of legalisation, depending on whether or not the country in which the degree was awarded is a signatory to the 1961 Hague Convention.
A. Apostille
An apostille certificate is required if the degree was awarded in a country that is a signatory to the Hague Convention of 1961.
An apostille certificate can be issued by stamping the document with a specific apostille stamp or on a separate apostille certificate.
B. Legalisation
Legalisation is required if the degree was awarded in a country that is not a signatory of the 1961 Hague Convention.
- The first legalisation of the document must be carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country that awarded the degree.
- The second legalisation must be carried out by a Finnish embassy or consulate in the country that completed the first legalisation.
If the original educational documents are not issued in English, Finnish or Swedish, official English translations are required in addition to the original documents.
What is an official translation?
- It is issued by the awarding institution.
- It is an officially certified copy of a translation issued by the awarding institution.
- It is translated by an official translator
- It is an officially certified copy of a translation made by an official translator.
Each translation must bear the translator's stamp and/or signature.
The official Diploma Supplement in English will also be considered a translation of the Degree Certificate.
