Effects of the COVID-19 situation on the library service

LUT and LAB Lappeenranta and Lahti campuses are closed until for the time being, the library facilities are not available external customers. The library offers self-directed use for LUT and LAB students and staff during campus opening hours from August 9.


1. Can I borrow books? 

LUT and LAB students and staff can borrow books using the self-checkout machines during campus opening hours. 

External customers please follow these instructions to borrow print material:    

  • Place a request on the material via LAB primo or LUT Primo

  • Once you receive the request arrival e-mail, arrange a pick- up appointment by filling in the online form. You will receive confirmation of the appointment via e-mail with further instructions of the pick-up location.

2. When should requests be picked up at the latest? 

The last pick up day is indicated in the request arrival email.

3. How can I renew my loans? 

You can renew your loans online via LAB Primo or LUT Primo unless there is a request placed for the item or if the maximum loan period is reached.  

4. Do I need a library card? 

A personal library card is required to borrow printed material. LUT and LAB students and staff can pick up the library card on the library service hours, please bring photo ID with you. Other customers need to fill in the patron sign up form and then arrange for a library card pick up appointment by using this online form.

5. Why are the materials I've requested already in my loans? 

The materials you have requested are loaned to you in advance on the pick-up date so the requests may appear in your loans before you go to pick them up. 

6. Is the interlibrary loan service available? 

The interlibrary loan service is available for LUT and LAB staff and students. More information, please contact: kaukopalvelu@lut.fi


1. How do I return items while the library is closed? 

LUT and LAB students and staff can return their loans to the library during campus opening hours. External customers please follow the instructions below if you want to return your items in person. You can also post your loans to the library. Please note that the library is not responsible for items lost in post.

Lappeenranta: You can return items by booking a returns appointment using the online form. The appointments are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:00 - 14:00. The books will returned from your account on the same day. 

Lahti: You can return items by booking a returns appointment using the online form. The appointments are available on weekdays between 9:00 - 14:00. The books will returned from your account on the same day. 

Fines and fees  

1. Will overdue fines accrue during the library closure? 

Yes, overdue fines will accrue unless you renew or return your loan by the due date. 

2. How can I pay my overdue fines? 

You can pay your library fines and fees online in Primo by going to "My profile" and clicking Pay fines. The minimum amount for online payment is 0,65€.

Service hours and channels

1. When will the library reopen? 

The library is open to LUT and LAB students and staff. Campuses and library facilities are closed to external customers. Customer service is available online. Necessary book lending and return services are provided, please see the instructions above.

2. How can I contact the library? 

You can contact the library via email or use the chat on the library website. We will reply to you by the next working day. Please use the online booking form to arrange a customer service appointment for borrowing and returns. 


1. Is printing available at the library? 

Printing in LUT Academic Library Lappeenranta is currently available for students and staff of LUT and LAB. 

Thesis room

1. Can I book a Thesis space? 

Please contact the LUT Academic Library Lappeenranta: kirjasto.lappeenranta@lut.fi.

2. How can I collect the key to Thesis? 

Please contact LUT Adacemic Library Lappeenranta. Please bring a photo ID with you for the appointment. 

3. How do I return the Thesis key?  

You can return the Thesis key to the post box in the lobby or you can bring it to the customer service desk. If you return the key to the post box please let us know via e-mail kirjasto.lappeenranta@lut.fi.
