Edemilson Parana
Biography
Edemilson Paraná is an Associate Professor (tenured) in Sociology at University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, and an Associate Professor (part-time) in the Department of Social Sciences at LUT University, Finland. He holds a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant and is an Academy Research Fellow of the Research Council of Finland (RCF). He is also a Geary Fellow at the UCD Geary Institute for Public Policy and an international fellow at the University of Groningen Rudolf Agricola School for Sustainable Development, the Netherlands. He has previously taught at the University of Brasília and the Federal University of Ceará in Brazil and held research fellowships at CNPq (Brazil’s national research council) and the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA, Brazil).
Edemilson has lectured and published extensively in the areas of Political Economy, Economic Sociology, and Social Theory. His research interests include the Digital Economy, Digital Finance, Financialisation, and the Political Economy of Artificial Intelligence. His academic work has been published in Big Data & Society, New Political Economy, Cambridge Journal of Economics, Third World Quarterly, Globalizations, Platforms & Society, among others. He currently sits on the boards of The Yearbook on Data Autonomy (editorial), Historical Materialism (corresponding editorial), and Global Political Economy (advisory).
