Biography

Jesse Railo is Associate Professor at LUT University. He is a PI in the Flagship of Advanced Mathematics for Sensing, Imaging and Modelling (FAME) of the Research Council of Finland and a Fulbright Fellow. His research is also supported by a Homing Grant of the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation. He holds the Title of Docent (Mathematical Foundations of Inverse Problems) at LUT University.

Railo completed his PhD degree with distinction at the University of Jyväskylä in December 2019. He held postdoctoral positions at the Seminar for Applied Mathematics, ETH Zürich, and the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, University of Cambridge. He was the recipient of the Finnish Inverse Prize of 2020 by the Finnish Inverse Problems Society for his PhD thesis Geodesic tomography problems on Riemannian manifolds. Railo received a competitive research fellowship from the Vilho, Yrjö ja Kalle Väisälä Foundation of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters in 2020 for his postdoctoral work. Railo completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Tampere in 2014 and was a visiting student at the University of Sheffield in 2011 - 2012.
