I am Antti Kaukiainen, 35 years old HSE engineer currently living in Turku. I studied in LUT between 2012 and 2018 and those were great years of my life, so hopefully mentoring soon-to-be graduates I can also give back to the system.
I studied on Chemical Engineering program, with process engineering being the major through my studies and minors between forest industry products to water treatment. During my studies I was also active in student life and tutored other students on multiple years. I also did one academic year student exchange in France. I studied chemical engineering broadly without any specific field in my mind for the career.
When I graduated, I found my first job after the graduation in ROXON, where I was first assisting senior colleagues in larger delivery project and later managing smaller project myself. I liked the company, but the business field was not meant for me, so I soon decided it is better to look for employment in a company that works in more fitting area. So, I came to AFRY Finland. My first years I worked in piping and mechanical design, both in large and in small projects and on my own or part of team. Collaboration was close with other engineering disciplines too. At the time my aim was to become project manager at AFRY. State of the world and macroeconomy intervened, and as employment at large project delivery became unstable but at the same time company Health, Safety and Environment team, I did job transition inside the company from one team to another. In HSE I have been mostly working with risk analyses such as HAZOP and HAZID but also done other HSE tasks such as participated in permit applications, fire wastewater calculations and so forth. Currently my aim is to start to facilitate risk analysis sessions soon myself.
This is first time for me to mentor, so I am open to do that for any person. In all the aspects of life I have always wanted to help people around me to learn and develop, so that we all can live in better future. Be that sparring my friends in miniature wargaming hobby, organising CISV’s international camps for kids & youth or to share tips and best practices at work.
