I am an environmental professional with over 20 years of experience across both the private and public sectors. I originally studied Environmental Engineering at LUT and later completed an MSc in Contaminated Land Management at the University of Nottingham. Since then, my career has taken me through environmental consultancy, life-cycle assessments and, more recently, public health. I currently work as a Health Protection Scientist at the UK Health Security Agency, where much of my work involves international projects, training and collaboration around chemical risks and public health preparedness. Over the years I have worked with people from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds across Europe, Africa and the UK Overseas Territories.
Having lived and worked in the UK for around 20 years, I am now relocating back to Finland, so becoming a mentor at LUT feels like a lovely way to reconnect with the university where my own career began and share some of the things I have learnt from building a career, changing direction along the way and working in different organisations and cultures. My background may be especially relevant to students in environmental field, as well as those interested in international work. I’d like the mentoring relationship to feel open and conversational, with space to talk through career choices, building confidence, or simply exploring what might come next.
Outside work, I enjoy keeping active, going to the gym, walking my dog, different forms of exercise, spending time outdoors and looking after my allotment. I also enjoy reading, eating out and spending time with my two boys who keep life busy and entertaining! Volunteering has been an important part of my life too, including working with Scouts and supporting refugees and other members of my local community.
